TANGO-CONTACT JAM AT STUDIO VALENCIA-San Francisco
3rd MONDAYS MONTHLY

Right at 8:30 SHARP, we start with a 30-minute mini-lesson,
of a few simple tango concepts to play with in your CI dance.
Then, we turn on the music and invite you to have at it--play at tango-ing,
have a full-on CI dance, go back and forth in upright and floor dances, play with lead/follow concepts,
and everything in between. This event is for experienced Contact Improvisation dancers.
We share our group experience with Tango vocabulary and experiment with fusing/blending CI and Tango.
Experienced Tango dancers who want to add CI to their dance are also welcomed.
We end with a BRIEF closing circle to exchange names and announcements.

LEVEL/SKILL REQUIRED: (At least) 1 year current weekly CI practice.

MUSIC: Contemporary Tango and Electronica, occasional live musicians.

Mira Barakat, Tanguera and CI dancer,
will be this month's mini-lesson teacher (July 19):
Taking the connection created by shared weight in Contact Improvisation (CI),
we will morph it to help us understand the concept of projection, fundamental to tango.
We will experiment along the spectrum in pressure, connection,
and signaling from CI to tango, playing with both extremes and the possibilities in between.
